About me

I’m Chantelle Smedley, I live in the UK with my husband, 18yr old son and 11yr old daughter, and our crazy cat Milly. I am an educator with a passion for education spanning over 20 years. I have taught in several schools across South Africa and United Kingdom which have given me access to a wealth of knowledge and experience. During my time as an educator I became privy to the needs of students struggling to access basic executive functioning skills such as time management, planning and prioritizing and getting started on tasks such as studying. It appeared clear that while students are expected to study, many don’t know how to go about this. As a result I further my training in executive functioning and started a private practice. Today I am offering in person tutoring and academic coaching in the Tonbridge area as well as online academic coaching to various students across the world.

Frequently asked questions

For many children there comes a time, that the classroom environment may become over stimulating, distracting or perhaps they haven’t quite grasped a learning skill or outcome. One to one tuition can provide the necessary scaffolding a child needs to fill the gap in their learning.  Having that individual attention and focus time allows a child to develop a drive for learning and allows tutors to be inventive and to try out approaches and methods that a child may not experience in school.

Private tutoring provides a safe environment to ask questions while building confidence and expand their knowledge.

An executive functioning coach helps students and adults find more organization, structure, and motivation in their daily tasks and goals. How do we do that exactly? Well, we focus on exploring which executive functions skills are established and which ones need more work. Having a coach is like having a thinking partner that provides that additional scaffolding in order to achieve their goals successfully. Each learner deserves a nurturing and encouraging space to grow and be inspired to enable
their goals to the best of their ability.

The Kent test is in two separate booklets, one called Reasoning which contains of questions which test your verbal, non-verbal and spatial skills, and the other called English & Maths. Both booklets contain timed tests which consist of a series of multiple-choice questions. Your child should be competent in all of the above areas. Your child should also complete some mock exams from April onwards, to practise exam questions under timed conditions.

The reasons parents give for wanting to start tutoring for their child depend on their ages. For 7 year olds it’s often about building confidence in reading and written skills or improving learning in mathematics.

Some students are introduced to effective study techniques at school and as a result do develop good study habits.Unfortunately, many students do not which is why I provide students with simple, quick to learn techniques which any student can use, whether going through secondary school or at university, to help them study more efficiently, and achieve better results.
